Professor, you supervise various subjects on the SBE course at
FH Aachen. How is the course structured? How many new enrol-
ments are there each year – the application deadline for the
coming winter semester expired on August 31?
The SBE course was successfully recertified last year. This regular review, Cybersicherheit
which is carried out on average every five years for all our degree courses,
ensures that the course content always meets the current requirements of
industry, science and business.
A central concern of readers is the question of what changes have been
sought in the curriculum. Here I can report that the review team was very
satisfied overall with the existing content that has been taught since the
course was introduced in 2018. However, there have been some specific
adjustments: For example, there is now a greater focus on programming and
the basics of physics are added right at the start of the course. In addition,
the studyability of the course has been further optimized through improved
coordination between the participating departments of Architecture, Civil BACnet/SC Lösungen
Engineering and Electrical Engineering and Information Technology.

As far as new enrolments are concerned, the final figures for the winter BACnet-Netzwerken gem. EN ISO 16484-5
semester 2024/25 are not yet available. However, we are confident that
the positive trend we are seeing in the Civil Engineering degree course will
also be transferred to the SBE degree course. Last year, we were able to BACnet/SC-Router
recruit almost 50 students for the SBE course. Our aim is to increase this
number to 60 students per year and thus almost reach our target capacity. • BACnet/SC und BACnet/IP Datalinks

Our uniqueness lies in interdisciplinary collaboration. In recent years, it
has been increasingly recognized that the construction sector has deficits SAUTER Vision Center/Vision Services

operations and thus in the entire building industry. Despite these chal- • BACnet/SC Client mit Hub-Funktion

exactly where we come in: We have brought together lecturers from the
fields of electrical engineering and information technology, process engi-

Thanks to this interdisciplinary orientation and close networking, we offer
a well-founded and practical education that meets the current and future
challenges of the construction and building industry. Weitere Informationen:

What requirements should students fulfill, what interests are
useful?
As in all engineering courses, curiosity, logical thinking and an analytical
approach to problem solving are essential in the SBE. The focus on
“Smart Buildings” also requires a strong intrinsic interest in reducing the
considerable energy consumption of all buildings and increasing comfort. Systems
